April 01- Sunday- Ramnavami - Birth Anniversary of Lord Rama.

April 05- Thursday- Mahavir Jayanti-Birth Anniversary of Lord Mahavir.

April 06 - Friday- Good Friday- Good Friday is the Friday immediately preceding Easter Sunday. It is traditionally the day on which Jesus was crucified.

April 14-  Saturday -  Ambedkar  Jayanti -  Birth   Anniversary     of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

May 06- Sunday- Id-ul-Fitr- It is one of the greatest Muslim festivals. Muslims greet each other with ‘Id-Mubarak’

May 19 (Saturday)- June 30 (Saturday)- Summer Break  (both days inclusive)

August 02- Thursday -Raksha Bandhan- Raksha Bandhan is celebrated by Hindus particularly in Northern India. Sisters tie the holy thread (Rakhi) on the wrists of their brothers wishing them a long life. Brothers, in turn, pledge to protect the honour of their sisters and help them in adversities.

August 10 -  Friday - Janmashtami- Janamashtami marks the birth of Lord Krishna. It is celebrated by Hindus all over the country with zeal and enthusiasm. Temples are tastefully decorated and children enact scenes from the life of Lord Krishna. The devout observe a fast and shlokas from the Geeta are recited in temples.

August 15- Wednesday -Independence Day- A day of celebration to mark the anniversary of India’s independence, attained in 1947.

August 20- Wednesday- Id-ul-Fitr- It is one of the greatest Muslim festivals. Muslims greet each other with ‘Id-Mubarak’

October 02- Tuesday -Gandhi Jayanti- Birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi- people visit Raj Ghat to pay floral tributes to the Father of Nation.
          
October 24- Wednesday - Dussehra- Hindus celebrate this festival to mark the victory of good over evil. On this day, Lord Rama triumphed over Ravana, the demon king. The ten-day festival is joyously celebrated all over the country in various ways.

October 22 (Monday) – October 24 (Wednesday) Autumn Break
October 27-  Saturday  -Id-ul-Zuha- This Muslim festival of sacrifice, Id-ul-Zuha (Arabic) or Bakrid in India is celebrated all over the country. Prayers are offered in the mosques and the sacrificial meat is then distributed after the Id prayers. Special delicacies are prepared and served among family and friends on the occasion..

October 29- Monday - Valmiki Jayanti- Birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki, author of the great epic Ramayana.

November 02- Friday- Karva Chauth- Married woman observe fast and wish for long life of their husbands. Their welfare, prosperity and progress are sought from God. They break the fast with the appearance of the moon.

November 12- November 15 (Monday to Thursday) -Diwali Break- The brightest Indian festival when every town and village is turned into a fairy land with millions of electric lights, candles and oil lamps illuminating homes and public buildings. The special feature of the festival is the worship of Laxmi, the goddess of wealth & prosperity.

November 15 (Thursday)- Bhai Dooj- A  festival  celebrated  to  strengthen bonds between brothers and sisters. Brothers take a pledge to safeguard their sisters’ honour and respect.

November 25 -Sunday – Muharram- Commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. Tazias, symbolic of the Martyr’s tomb at Karbala, are carried in a procession

November 28- Wednessday-Guru Nanak Dev Birthday- The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, is celebrated with great devotion.

December 25- Tuesday- Christmas Day- Birthday of Jesus Christ is celebrated all over the World.

December 31, 2012- January 14, 2013 Winter Break
(both days inclusive).

January 14 (Monday) –- Makar Sankranti – A major harvest festival of India, it is one of the biggest events in the States of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Bull fights and bullock races are important features of the celebrations. Also celebrated in the eastern and northern regions when millions of pilgrims take a dip in the holy Ganges.
                                                                                                                   
January 26 – Saturday- Republic Day – The National festival is observed throughout the country to mark the inauguration of the Republic of India on 26th January 1950. In Delhi, the celebrations include a magnificent parade of the armed forces and folk dances.

March 10 – Sunday - Mahashivratri – Hindus perform puja of Lord Shiva by fasting on this day.

March 26 –27 (Tuesday-Wednesday) Holi –Dulhendi- It is spring festival and the most boisterous of all festivals observed all over the country. Men, women and children throw coloured water and powder on one another.
