‘DAVPE MUN 2K19’

DAV Paschim Enclave hosted its Second Edition of  Model United Nations Conference titled DAVPE MUN 2019. The Conference was held from July 26 to 27 2019. It had around 120 delegates and 21  International Press participants  from different schools. The aim was to provide an atmosphere for them to engage in a constantly high level of debate on the most pressing matters, which are affecting the international community, today. The Opening Ceremony began with an inspiring  speech by Ms. Nimisha  Sharma about the transformation of a student through the medium of MUN Conference . She spoke about the relevance of various issues that would be discussed during the Conference. She urged  each delegate to shoulder the responsibility of being a global citizen with pride.

The ceremony was presided over by the guest of honor for the event Mrs. Chitra Nakra who is the Founder Principal of VVDAV Vikaspuri  and manager of DAV Paschim Enclave and many other prestigious DAV schools. The inaugural ceremony  began with the reciting of the optimistic DAV Anthem which was followed by the welcome address by respected Principal Madam, Ms. Manju Malik, through which Madam welcomed all the guests to their school and wished them luck for their Conference. Moving on was the  customary floral welcome extended by Principal Madam to the Guest of Honor. Further  a melodious welcome song by the school choir group greeted the invitees. One of the prime objectives of United Nations is to maintain peace and this was reminded to the delegates and the members through a mesmerizing Peace song. Post the song, the guest of honor, Mrs. Chitra Nakra, addressed the gathering with her motivating and inspirational words after which a token of appreciation was presented to Madam. This was followed by the Secretary General's speech who declared the Conference open. In the end a vote of thanks was presented by the MUN Co-ordinator  Bhavna Shah in which she thanked her team and the administration for making the event possible.

She also thanked Synokem Pharmaceuticals, Hannu Estates, Cornitos and Rajbhog for sponsoring the event. Jhanvi Dabas  the Secretary General, thanked the School and declared DAVPEMUN Conference 2019 OPEN!

The four Committees simulated included the UNITED NATIONS GENERAL ASSEMBLY (SOCHUM), UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL, ALL INDIA POLITICAL PARTIES MEET (AIPPM), INTERNATIONAL PRESS. The International Press included the Journalists, Caricaturists and the Photo artists in all the three committees. The Background Guides for the Agendas of the Committees, Country Matrix /Portfolio  and all the information related to DAVPEMUN was  uploaded on our Facebook Page from time to time.
The Agenda of the United Nations General Assembly (SOCHUM) was Combatting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The Executive  Board comprised of Shorya Jain as Chairperson along with Apoorva Gupta as Vice – Chairperson, Anushka Sirohi and Jayant Sharma as the Rapporteurs. The delegates discussed opposing views and policies on same sex marriage and adoption through means of moderated caucus.

The agenda for United Nations  Human Rights Council was Protection of Human Rights while countering Terrorism. The Executive Board  comprised of Chairperson Saksham Singh along with Zaheena and Soumya as Co-Vice Chairpersons. There were extensive debates on the definition and scope of Human Rights and Terrorism. This was something that each delegate had their own opinion on, hence the debate got quite heated with delegates quoting the religious books and such like. Delegates supported the fact that innocent victims of terrorism suffer an attack on their most basic right to live in peace and security.

The Agenda for All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM) was Status of Reservations in India. Its Executive Board comprised of Chairperson Pratham Sharma, Aniruddh Bali as Vice Chairperson and  Radha Krishan as Rapporteur. Over the course of 2 days one of the most aggravating if not the most stimulating topic in Indian politics i.e. reservations was deliberated upon and Press Release was made.

In International Press Nandini Chaturvedi acted as the Editor-in-Chief and Suhani Chadha as the Head of Photography. Both of them gave different tasks to the participants  to be covered during the Conference. In the Valedictory, the International Press Chairpersons presented a Newsletter to  the Principal Madam Ms. Manju Malik.

Since MUN conferences are competitive, there were the formations of divergent blocs in each committee. But this reflected the in- depth research done on the parts of the delegates to make sure they didn’t betray the stance of their country. Communiques and Press Release were made in each committee.

Looking at the range of issues debated and the relevance of all these issues, the DAVPE MUN 2019 can be declared a booming success.
