Every year, October 31 is marked as National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas in India to observe Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary. Sardar Patel was popularly called the Iron Man of India. The objective of the day is to uplift the nation's unity and spread awareness about the contribution of Vallabhbhai Patel. The day provides an opportunity to reaffirm the strength of the nation, upholding the unity, integrity and security of the country.

 

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played an instrumental role in the Indian freedom movement. The nationalist, freedom fighter and statesman, is known for uniting 562 princely states of Modern India to build the Republic of India. National Unity Day was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm by the students of DAVCPS (Junior Wing). The special assembly started with a speech by Ishan Rohilla of class IV-E on contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel followed by a poem by Yuvraj of class IV-C. He played the role of Iron Man of India. Everyone appreciated students' efforts.

 

Afterwards Ms. Deepti Seth in her value talk explained about the importance of Unity and significance of National Unity Day. To mark Rastriya Ekta Diwas students took a pledge. A documentary was shown to the students on contribution of Sardar Patel in unification of India. A painting competition was also organised in the school premises where students participated whole heartedly. Sardar Patel’s vision was to integrate the people in the country irrespective of people’s caste, ethnicity, gender, or religion. A truly great social leader, the Iron Man of India is hailed till date for his contributions.
